Community Notice: Waterfowl Advisory

The Mattituck Park District has recently observed several deceased waterfowl along areas of the Peconic Bay shoreline. Avian influenza is suspected, and the situation is being monitored.

Out of caution, we ask visitors to please: • keep dogs leashed near shoreline areas • do not touch or move wildlife • avoid allowing pets to investigate birds or vegetation along the beach

If you see a dead or visibly ill bird on park district property, please notify us so staff can safely remove it.

Call the MPD Facilities Department: (631) 298-9396. Please include the park location and approximate area.

Our staff is equipped to handle removal properly.

If the bird is located outside park property, it should be reported to NYS DEC Wildlife Health at (631) 444-0310.

Thank you for helping keep our parks, pets, and wildlife safe.
