FAQ: Powering Parks for a Greener Future

 

1. What is the goal of the electrification initiative?

The goal is to reduce carbon footprints, improve air quality, and enhance visitor experiences by converting park facilities to 100% renewable energy sources.

 

2. Why are parks being electrified?

Parks are central to community life. Electrifying them supports sustainability goals, reduces reliance on fossil fuels, and sets an example with eco-friendly infrastructure.

 

3. Which parks will be electrified first?

The first phase will focus on the Lodge at Bailie Beach, followed by similar strategies at Veterans Beach.

 

4. What changes will be made during Phase #1 at Bailie Beach Lodge?

  • Installation of solar panels to meet all facility energy needs

  • Replacement of oil heating systems with electric heat pumps

  • Heat pumps will also provide air conditioning (Click here to lean about heat pumps.)

  • Solar-powered lighting for trails and facilities

  • Electrified maintenance equipment replacing gas-powered tools
