Veterans in Service to Our Country

The Mattituck Park District continues to honor the service of the veterans of Mattituck and Laurel who served their country and especially honors those who paid the ultimate sacrifice and gave their lives in the service of their country.

Private Russell M Penny gave his life at the US Army Airbase at Hickham Field, Hawai'i on 7th of December 1941. Sergeant Peter P Krupski succumbed to his wounds suffered at Guadalcanal on the Solomon Islands on 13th June 1943.

On Memorial Day 28 May 2011, Private Penny and Sergeant Krupski were posthumously commended for their service to their country by Suffolk County Legislator Edward P Romaine and Veterans Memorial Park was dedicated as such.

As a small token of thanks, the Mattituck Park District grants qualified Mattituck and Laurel veterans, service members or their surviving spouses free lifetime parking through the Lifetime Military Service Permit. Please click here to apply.
