Breakwater Beach is a large, beautiful sandy beach shaped by the western jetty of the Mattituck Inlet. The jetty, built by the Army Corps of Engineers in 1906,  slowly grows the beach by trapping the sand that naturally moves west to east.

Breakwater pavilion offers picnic tables with a view, including of the ever-changing, gorgeous sunsets. The property is also the home to the MPD's volleyball courts.

During the summer season, the beach has lifeguards on duty, as well as restrooms and an outdoor shower. A beach wheelchair is available for disabled patrons. There is a small assortment of playground attractions for children. The "rocks" are popular with fishermen.

Watch a beautiful drone video of Breakwater Beach, Bailie's Beach, and Mattituck Inlet.

Our pavilion and/or volleyball courts can be booked for special events or league play, but are otherwise available to our residents for their picnics and pick up games.

WARNING! A sandbar has formed on the Eastern side of the Breakwater Beach jetty inside of the Mattituck Inlet. The sandbar is not a swimming beach and is not under the protection of the lifeguards. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES should this be used as a beach.

Since the sandbar formed, a swimmer needed to be rescued and someone else drowned further down the inlet. This is a very hazardous area due to boat traffic and the swift current in the inlet. DO NOT USE the sandbar as a place to swim.
