View the video and read more about the proposed budget for 2027 before the vote on August 20th, 2026 A SMALL ANNUAL INCREASE.  A MAJOR INVESTMENT IN OUR COMMUNITY.

The Mattituck Park District manages and maintains nine public properties totaling approximately 63 acres—including protected swimming beaches, waterfront parks, playgrounds, athletic fields, walking trails, tennis courts, community facilities, docks and natural areas.

These properties belong to the residents of the District, and maintaining them requires responsible planning, ongoing care, and continued investment.

WHAT IS PROPOSED?

The proposed 2027 budget includes a 10% increase in the Park District tax levy.

A TOTAL INCREASE of $65,000

For the average property, the estimated increase is approximately:

$16.25 PER YEAR $1.38 PER MONTH ABOUT 4 CENTS PER DAY

The actual amount will vary based upon each property’s assessed value.

WHERE WILL THE ADDITIONAL FUNDING GO?

The increase is focused primarily on maintenance and improvements—not administrative spending. There are a large number of needed maintenance projects. There are opportunities to add new facilities which better meet the current and future needs of the District.

Planned and needed projects include:

• Repairs and upgrades to the playgrounds at Breakwater Beach and Veterans Beach Park • Parking lot repairs at several District properties • Tennis court repairs, fencing and parking improvements at Sabat Park • Completion of walking trails, benches and educational signage at Sabat Park • Invasive species removal and future kayak access to James Creek • Improvements to athletic fields at Aldrich Lane • Roof, heating, cooling and energy upgrades at Bailie Beach Lodge • Repairs to Love Lane Dock and other waterfront facilities • Continued maintenance of two protected, lifeguard-supervised swimming beaches

WHY IS THE INCREASE NEEDED?

Many District facilities are aging, and several projects can no longer be postponed without risking greater costs in the future. These represent a need and an opportunity to transform them to meet the current desires of the community.

A RECORD OF RESPONSIBLE MANAGEMENT

Since 2023, the Mattituck Park District has:

• Kept annual expenditures below available revenues • Completed significant repairs and facility improvements • Strengthened financial oversight and spending controls • Rebuilt emergency reserves • Stayed within the 2% tax cap in both 2024 and 2025 • Implemented pursuing grants and outside funding to reduce the burden on taxpayers

The District has no longer been spending beyond its means. The proposed increase will allow it to continue addressing maintenance, protecting valuable public assets, and planning responsibly for larger projects.

WHAT YOUR PARK DISTRICT TAX SUPPORTS

  • 9 PUBLIC PROPERTIES

  • PLAYGROUNDS, TRAILS AND TENNIS COURTS
